The NIHON cycle was created during the two years when Tomasz Niewiadomski would frequently visit Japan. It depicts people with their emotional and existential truth, a subject that the artist found very moving during those years. They represent small fragments of reality carefully cut out from the surrounding space, and the metaphysical moments that are encapsulated in time, from which the artist created their own story.
Delicately unfocused silhouettes and moving shots with a modern metropolis in the backround – that is how Japan looks through the photographer’s lens, as he attempts to capture the ephemeral to save it for longer. The fragility of the ethereal is underscored by the nearly archaic platinum/palladium painting technique that provides images akin to watercolors of extreme durability – allowing the passing instant to last a moment longer.
